Cancer: Day to Day
Day to Day as a Cancer Patient
How Might We
Understand, visually, the delicate and ever-changing impact of living with cancer.
Description
A final project for a mapping and data visualization course during my MFA in Design for Social Innovation. The design ask was to creatively visualize data from any topic that we would like.
Role
Individual, working 1:1 with a cancer patient to gather data from.
Tools
Adobe InDesign, Quantitative and Qualitative research methods.
Given my interest in healthcare innovation, I decided to focus my project on the day to day experience of a person living with cancer. I chose to focus on this because I had conducted some initial interviews with someone living with cancer and I heard from those interviews that no two cancer patients' experiences are the same, nor are any two days of a cancer patient's experience.
We began the process discussing what an emotional, spiritual, and psychological well being meant for the patient. Next, I would establish a rating scale of 1 - 10 and ask them at various points throughout the day how they were feeling. I collected quotes from this and have displayed selected quotes at low points and high points of this patient's day.
